Art at The Orchard interview with artist Richard Carrier

We're delighted that artist Richard Carrier has agreed to do a little interview for the blog, he's exhibiting a selection of his original paintings here at The Orchard until 2nd April

Richard please tell us about your work? What are you currently working on?

My work is inspired by different styles of art and artists, so you will find elements of Pop art, art deco poster art, street art and steam punk all in the mix. I follow and continue to be inspired by artists like Andy Warhol, Banksy, Blek Le Rat, David Hockney and Lora Zombie to name a few.
At the moment I'm currently working on re-imagining some old canvases I done a few years back - so watch this space!

How did you decide to become an artist?

I drew a bit when I was a kid and teenager, but then life comes along and you do other stuff, but around 15 years ago I started to get back into it, I had no idea of what to draw, so I copied images of stuff I liked and then after a few years started to gain confidence in trying out my own stuff. It's been a slow process but a good learning curve.

What's the best advise you've been given as an artist?

There is no right or wrong, just do what you enjoy and be creative.

What do you do when you are not creating?

Working full time, decorating, being an awesome husband and father, updating facebook.

What are your life and work goals for the future?

I would love to be more involved in the arts, working with other artists, setting up more exhibitions and creating/ being influenced by different styles of art and artists.
I'm also looking at doing a bit more travelling with my wife.

Richard you're currently exhibiting some of your original artwork here at The Orchard where else can we find your work?

The Orchard is my first exhibition in this area since moving from Kent last year, I have other pieces of work ready for print and if there is a good response then I would love to come back and hold another exhibition here. Im also contacting other galleries both in Cambridgeshire and Kent to see whether they would be interested in taking on some of my work.

You can find out more about my art through my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RichBot-art-520124054721767/ or through Instagram http://instagramrichbot_art
